Jessica graduated from the Masters of Science in Speech and Language Therapy in the University of Limerick in 2017. She completed her Undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology. Jessica is a registered member of Coru and is a member of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT), the Independent Speech Therapists of Ireland (ISTI), and the Therapist Neurodiversity Collective.
During her Masters degree, Jessica gained experience in several settings including Adult Disability Services, Paediatric Primary Care, Early Intervention Teams, Physical and Sensory School Age Team, and Developmental Coordination Disorder School Age Team.
After completing her Masters, Jessica worked in several settings including a private multidisciplinary practice, a school for children with severe to profound intellectual disabilities, and n the primary care setting. She gained invaluable experience working with a varied caseload which included autistic children, children with an Intellectual Disability, Phonological Delay/Disorder, Articulation Disorder, Stuttering, Selective Mutism, Developmental Language Disorder, and Developmental Coordination Disorder. She also worked with adults with acute brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, stuttering, Stroke (Aphasia), and Voice Disorder.
Currently, Jessica works with Clinical Psychologists in Solas Psychology, carrying out Autism assessments and providing comprehensive reports and recommendations for appropriate services and supports to help the individual in school, home and in the community.
In her private practice, Jessica has developed a keen interest in supporting the speech and language development of autistic children and has completed courses in Sensory Processing for SLPs, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), Emotional Regulation (Autism Level Up), Natural Language Acquisition and Gestalt Language Processing, Lámh, Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R). She has attended several workshops and seminars such as Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapeutic Practice for the Autistic Population, supporting Gestalt Language Processors in the Classroom and Neurodiversity Affirming report writing.
Jessica uses aspects of different therapy frameworks and models strategically, continuously staying updated on new research emerging regarding diversity in social intelligence, The Double Empathy Problem, Autistic Masking, joint attention differences, and autistic developmental milestone trajectories, etc.
In addition, Jessica also has a keen interest in supporting children with Speech Sound Disorders and has completed continued professional development in this area including: Core Vocabulary training, minimal pairs training, lateral lisp remediation, complexity approach, generalisation for residual articulation errors, decision making for therapeutic approaches for SSD, and differential diagnosis of severe speech disorders in children. She provides high-quality, evidence-based assessment and intervention based on the child’s unique presentation.
